John Aston (b 1947), Dusk Light, oil on canvas. There is a timeless quality to Aston’s minimalist paintings, in which the visible world is a merely veil for the unseen reality. In this work, Axton sets the temporal qualities of light against the vast expanse of a darkening sky. The last sliver of sunlight at dusk seems to beckon us to drop all our cares and meditate.
