Image of the Day: Ocean Flares

All of a sudden
the ocean tossed its mane;
Like a roll call
the waves heave and curl
and break into a million crystalline pieces
In the spacious marine light,
I saw waves of gold
rising and falling
like heavenly torrents.

If you are an ocean goer, you know these little beauties, but there’s a lot of people that don’t know anything about them”, says photographer Philip Thurston about ocean flares. “Flares don’t have the power of slabs, but they have an incredibly beautiful display of splayed water that happens when two opposing forces collide. They look especially amazing in golden light.”
