This is the first week of spring. In Japan, millions of tourists should now be enjoying the start of the cherry blossom season viewing. But this year this different. With a world gripped by fear of the coronavirus, locals and foreigners are staying away. Virus or no virus, spring is in the air and our collective prayers is for brighter days ahead. Meanwhile, we can still celebrate this season indoors with sublime art such as Gustav Klimt’s magnificent, blossom-filled landscape ‘Bauerngarten’, painted in 1907 at the very peak of the artist’s golden period.
