Ode to Happiness

“Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination”

~ Mary Oliver

Ode to Happiness

Today, I am happy,
this very moment
with or without someone.
Before me, the Earth’s
quiet exuberance
rubs gratuitously on me,
like I am more precious
than the wild grasses.
I hear the four chambers
of my heart sing
and I feel the world is my soul –
sand and sea, air and earth,
the pleated hills,
the breath of clouds,
all rejoicing
for no other reason
than they exist.

Inspired by ‘An Ode to a Happy Day’ by Pablo Neruda.
