How crazy are the times we live in! How necessary for the soul to find peace amid the confusion and the despair. Music can help. If you find classical music too heavy, there’s always the music of modern composers which can be just as uplifting. Ambient music, film scores and hymns set the perfect mood for reflection. Below I offer three pieces to help us quieten down to soak in the beauty of the music. So, sit back, relax and breeeath…
Gift of a Thistle (from ‘Braveheart’ by James Horner)
You know it is a good piece of music when your heart aches each time you listen to it; This next tune is one of them – the soundtrack from the anime series, Inuyasha by the Japanese composer, Kaoru Wada (b. 1962) entitled “To Love’s End.”
The last piece for today will transport you to another world. It’s a beautiful folk tune by the blind Irish composer, Turlough 0’Carolan (1670 – 1738) whose great fame is due to his gift for melodic composition, many of which were composed for the harp, and which are still appreciated today for their relatable, modernish sounds. The piece is entitled Sí Beag, Sí Mór, which translates as “Small Fairy Mound, Big Fairy Mound.”
