This minimalist bamboo basket is folded to look slim and elegant and at the same time, functional. It can be hung as piece of sculptural art or used as a vase. The creator is Jiro Yonezawa, a contemporary bamboo basket artist who has spent almost 20 years in the US making bamboo sculptural works inspired by Western art. In 2008 he returned to his hometown in Japan and built a new studio in Saiki City, Oita Prefecture. Since his return he has been active in the Japanese New Art & Craft (Nihon Shinkogei) organization and has received several national awards. His works are held in many public and private collections such as the Microsoft Corporation in Seattle, the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Portland Art Museum in Oregon, and the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia.
