Poetry in the Sky: Birds in Mid Flight

A bird in flight is always a spectacle, making light of the enormous engineering work humans have to put in to take a plane into the sky. Despite all our advances with human flight, we don’t come close to matching the aerodynamics of birds in their feathered flight, not to mention the beauty in their graceful movements, vibrant colors, and the patterns they create in the sky. British photographer, Mark Harvey, who is known for his equine and canine photography, recently captured in stunning images, birds in the middle of their flight. The avian creatures he recorded are all common birds such as magpies, blue tits, starlings, goldfinches – unremarkable, unnoticed, until now.

To capture his series of striking photos of birds in flight, Harvey used a slow, medium format with the same camera famed bird watcher Victor Hasselblad manufactured for the outdoor endeavor, taking just one image at a time. The results speak for themselves.
