Poem of the Day: ‘Moonshooters’

2022 will be remembered as the year when the world of cryptocurrencies collapsed on itself. Virtually all forms of cryptocurrencies had crashed, like a gigantic dam that suddenly broke under the pressure a massive earthquake. Everything from Bitcoin, Ethereum to so-called “stablecoins” saw their prices drop over a cliff, none worse than the strangely named stablecoin called Luna, which once was valued at more than $50b, lost more than 90 percent of its value within one week and is essentially worthless now, proving the wisdom of that ancient adage that “all that glitters is not gold.”

Here’s a poem I wrote, “inspired” by this sage of excess and failed experiments, titled “Moonshooters”

MOONSHOOTERS

They woke up to find that
the moon had crashed.
that every moon-shooter
had lost almost everything.
They wailed,
they gnashed their teeth,
they cried foul. It was
their only chance to
make it big. And fast.

But give them time.
They will fall asleep,
they will dream again.
It will be the same dream
in a different place.
