If you notice – and I mean slow, patient noticing – you’ll find that the world is insanely beautiful. The natural world is so extravagantly intricate that I sometimes wonder whether it is ‘overdoing’ it. Then there is us – part of the vast fabric of nature and every bit as wondrous – from the construction of our bodies to the mystery of our consciousness from which our finest achievements flow, in science, in art and in literature. The thing is – do we take time to notice all this intricate beauty, whether we are camping in the wild, or just commuting to the office (with our eyes mostly glued to the phone), bypassing streets that are pulsing with life? I often get philosophical when I ruminate about such things and I can’t help but think that the world is made for our beholding, as if by our beholding, the world is reassured that all its beautiful creations are acknowledged by us to be so.
